A-Frame Reno - Entry

Along with the kitchen, this room experienced the biggest transformation!  Let's take a look back at what it looked like before:

So, really nothing to it - just an empty space!  For the flooring, I wanted something special.  I chose this vinyl tile from the local home improvement store - which I purchased for $1.19.  It fit the space perfectly, and I feel like it makes the space look extra special!

I knew that I didn't want a big opening in the back, so I decided to close it off.  I decided to add a fireplace!  It is a couple of inches deep, so that I have space for some logs.

I added a chimney on the exterior, which I designed to enclose both the back of the fireplace and the closet bump out on the second floor.  The whole thing is made of cardboard, wrapped in patterned contact paper.

For the fire, I cut up a branch and used the inside of a battery-operated votive candle for the flame!

I added details such as an armchair and ottoman, lamp, and a mirror and accessories on the mantle.  You will see photos of these below, but first, let's talk about...

The Front Door

I actually saved the front door for last - it was the very last thing I made as part of this reno.  I wanted it to look special and have a lot of curb appeal, but I wasn't sure yet what I wanted it to look like.  If the house had come with the original lacy double doors, I would have painted them black and reinstalled them.  However, it was missing one, and the other was broken, so I had to come up with something new.

I decided I wanted a wide, single door with side lights, and wanted it to be mostly "glass" so that it would allow light in and also show off the fireplace.  I made a frame from bamboo sticks, painted black, with plastic packaging sandwiched in between for the glass. I added decorative corner pieces for interest.  The sidelights are plastic panes of glass, framed with bamboo sticks and wooden skewers.

Here is the end result - enjoy!

Finally, I added a little wall between the kitchen and entry, so the appliances aren't visible from the rest of the house.  I hung a mirror and small shelf for trinkets - here is the finished look!
